ABOUT THE ATELIER

Atelier Degenhardt is a Viennese furrier's workshop under the direction of master craftsman Christoph Kobza, MA.

Master furrier Christoph Kobza, Atelier Degenhardt

Born in Vienna, Christoph Kobza discovered his love of craftsmanship thanks to his grandmother. He was in his early 20s when he first came across a fur coat: it was love at first touch.

From self-taught to state-certified master craftsman

After 10 years of editorial work at ORF, the graduate communications manager left his secure job, followed his passion and began an extraordinary apprenticeship in second-chance education. Christoph Kobza was trained by a traditional furrier in Vienna's city center.

At the same time, he launched the DIY blog "Pelzebub", which offers simple step-by-step instructions for those who like to work with fur themselves.

Tradition and zeitgeist

After successfully passing his master craftsman's examination, Christoph Kobza founded the "Atelier Degenhardt". The name is a tribute to his grandmother Helga Degenhardt, who introduced him to the world of craftsmanship as a trained men's tailor and encouraged him early on.

Some of her tools are now in the hands of her grandson, who, as part of a new generation, is reviving, cultivating and further developing the classic craftsmanship.

We are turning our backs on fast fashion and rejecting inhumane working conditions in the global textile industry and their ecological consequences.

As a resource-conserving and sustainable material, fur has a raison d'être, especially today, and as a durable, certified and versatile natural material, it creates durability across generations.
